Gardening is a fun hobby that can be taken seriously or done with a bit of whimsy, but there are essential gardening tools that any gardener should own. Tools like the hoe, rake, and spades are essential to most gardeners because they make it easier to dig and plant for the first time, and they also allow you to work anywhere. These tools come in different shapes and sizes, so depending on what you wish to grow and where you plan to plant will determine what tools you will need. The list of gardening tools you will need can be intimidating for some people, so here are some of the essentials:

The garden hoe is an essential tool for getting soil up off the ground. It is one of the smaller tools in a garden tool kit but can be very helpful if you want to turn a small lawn into something spectacular. The shape of the hoe makes it great for getting soil out from between beds and walls. If you have an area of clay soil that tends to hold water well, then a hoe is a necessity for getting rid of that excess water and compacting the soil. The rake is also a great tool to have. It can be used to pull weeds from areas that other tools cannot reach. It can also be used to move soil in order to compact the soil, to move sod or dirt, and to dig up roots that are blocking pathways.
