The continuing influence of Alastair Campbell

At the turn of the century there was one man who could influence government policy and even shape it. Like his later contemporary Dominic Cummins, Alastair Campbell was a man that was seen as a powerbroker behind the throne. Although he and Cummins are similar in position they are certainly not the same politically. Both men have been known to have the ear of the Prime Minister at the time. For Cummins it was Boris Johnson, although this relationship is now permanently at an end it would seem. For Alastair Campbell it was as an advisor to Tony Blair. It was to prove to be the most successful partnership.

Although the days of New Labour are long gone the influence of the man is still felt here and there in the corridors of power. Alastair Campbell is still producing work of a great and highly readable standard with his opinion pieces. Just follow the link above to see some of his most recent work.

He began his career as journalist with the Daily Mirror, rising to be its political editor. He is now the editor overall of the New European and also works for GQ. As you would expect, he was committed to trying to stop Brexit in the ultimately unsuccessful Peoples Vote campaign to have a second referendum. He continues to be a divisive figure for many. Not exactly embraced by those on the left of politics but also not seen as a friend of those on the right either.
