What crafts can you undertake with wool

Wool is a truly wonderful material to work with. Its soft or its coarse, its coloured or plain. It can be thick and it can be thin. It’s truly one of the most versatile materials and resources that human beings have ever come across. The other great thing about wool is that it actually helps out the sheep that we take it from. If the wool is not removed then they can overheat and exhaust themselves. It also saves them the time having to rub up against trees and stonewalls to get the wool off themselves before the summer starts.

With this in mind wool is a dream for the fancy fingered and craft person alike. If you’re new to the old art of sewing then you should get hold of Knitting Kits from Wool Couture. These kits contain all the material and tools that you need to get started plus they offer different common projects that you might undertake. What are the crafts you might undertake with wool?

  1. Tapestry. Weaving onto a mat to create a scene was once the most artistic thing a middle aged lady could do. Depicting scenes of a biblical nature, or famous historical events was a great way for a Duchess or Lady to pass the time whilst her husband was off on the crusades or something. It’s still done today, just not on the same scale as the one at Bayeux.
  2. Stuffed animals. Plenty of kits for these huggable little creatures. Rabbits. Monkeys, cats, dogs and, of course, bears, remain very popular with the public. Find a new creation of your own and you’ll save a fortune on Christmas presents. Or just increase your own collection.

  1. Macrame. Originally done by bored sailors on their long voyages over the Atlantic the only difference was that they used old bits of rope. Now you can use yarn or wool, but rope is still popular.
  2. Clothes. Who doesn’t love a nice chunky jumper or a nice sleek cashmere top. Why not go really wild and get a beautiful multicoloured poncho. All of these things can be made from wool and knitted together to create something quite spectacular.
  3. Blankets. With the increase in fuel costs and the need to conserve energy so that we aren’t reliant on a certain country for some of our supply, the humble thick woollen blanket and croquet mat is a brilliant addition to the household. Combine it with some thick socks and you’re well on the way to the Danish cultural phenomenon of hygge.
