Leather is loved for its durability and flexibility. Leather is produced by tanning hides and skins of animals. There are four types of leather: top-grain, full-grain, genuine, and corrected grain.

Full-Grain leather is the best quality

Full-grain is distinguished by its smooth, luxurious surface and has very few flaws. This is the most common type of leather. The leather has not been snuffed or buffed in order to remove natural marks and imperfections. The fibres of the leather are durable and stable because they have not been removed. The leather will retain less moisture from prolonged contact because the grain breathes. This type of leather is not easily worn out. It develops a patina instead, a thin protective layer which protects leather from wear and corrosion. High-quality furniture and footwear are made from it. There are two types of finished products: aniline and semi-aniline. The most desired finish for leather is aniline. The leather is dyed exclusively with soluble dyes, without any topcoat or insoluble pigment. Semi-aniline is protected by a thin protective layer that prevents it from fading and staining.

The most common leather is top-grain leather

The second highest leather quality in the category of high-end leather products is top-grain. As the leather’s layer is removed, it becomes more flexible and thinner. The surface of the metal is sanded and a finishing coat is applied to give it a more plastic-like feel. This makes it appear cooler. It also develops a patina which protects the leather from corrosion and damage, allowing it to last longer. It is more stain resistant and less expensive than full grain leather. This type of leather is popular because it’s durable and widely available.
