In our modern era if you want things done, and people to turn up at an event you need to have advertising. Our attention is being bombarded with signs and symbols shouting “look at me!” so much that it is quite overwhelming. However, if you do have something that you need to get out there you need to have an advertising plan for it just as much as you need to have an Event Medical Cover in place.
What are some of the ways to advertise a local event?
- Poster campaign. One of the most effective ways to advertise an event is to have a small sign put out on traffic lights. Obviously they must not obscure the lights but about half way up the pole is the prime position for them to sit at driver eye level. You’ll have a captive audience, which is very unusual nowadays, as everyone has to stop at lights with no exceptions.
- Social Media. Set up a Facebook or Youtube channel for the event. You’ll have to get people to like and subscribe but you can drop hints, trailers and mini previews on there to spike the interest.
- Flyers. Printing is not that expensive. Why not hit homes in the local area with a small A5 poster.
Matching your advertising to your audience
Advertising is what turns a planned event into one people actually attend, but choosing the wrong method can waste money. Promotional materials handed out to the public are among the most popular options, yet depending on your audience and the nature of the event, some methods simply will not work.
Several factors affect how well your advertising performs. An event that is not tied to a local business may struggle to reach a large enough audience nearby, and promoting something the public has never heard of can be harder than advertising a familiar product or service.
The starting point is understanding who you want to attract. Think about their interests and preferences before you decide how to reach them. Then choose carefully: the medium, the size of the advert, and its design and appearance all matter. Taking time over these choices is what stops an advertising budget being spent with little to show for it.
