Exmoor
Grab your telescope and make the trip to Exmoor. This part of North Devon is recognised as an International Dark Sky area. Light management is a strong point here, with local authorities ensuring that there are plenty of opportunities for stargazers to enjoy the view. The sky here is often so beautiful that you do not need a scope. If you don’t have one, then you can rent one at the National Park Centres. Brecon Beacons
Brecon Beacons is the only Dark Sky location in Wales. Local authorities have made great efforts to reduce light pollution. The night sky is spectacular. Crai Reservoir is a great place to visit, as are the National Park Visitor Centre and Llangorse Lakes. In 2012, this area became the first Dark Sky Reserve to be established in Britain.
Lake District
Cumbria, a region known for its stunning scenery and rugged beauty, is also a great place to stargaze. You won’t need special equipment to see the stars in Cumbria. Grizedale Forest Park is the most popular place to go. You can spend your day hiking and then enjoy the darkness before it falls.
