Wallsworth Hall (or Nature in Art, as it is now known) is a spectacular building located in the Twigworth area of Gloucester. It is an incredible building that is home to a number of artists in residents as well as art classes that are suitable for people of all ages and draws in visitors from Gloucester and the surrounding areas. It is just a short walk from the Gloucester Park Homes from http://www.parkhomelife.com/our-parks/orchard-park-homes-gloucester-gloucestershire/ which are also located in Twigworth.

The house appeared in Simon Jenkins’s book ‘England’s 1000 Best Houses’ and was built in around 1740 on the site of an original Tudor timber house. It was designed and built by Samuel Hayward who at the time was a local businessman and a magistrate. He bought it as a wedding present for his wife. They were a very well known couple and family in the area, so much so that a memorial stone to them and their children can be seen in Gloucester Cathedral in the South Aisle.

A visit to Nature in Art will see a painting of how the house originally looked located in one of the Galleries and it gives an idea of the changes that have occurred to the building since it was first developed. There are many of the original features still in the house, including the staircase which often catches the eye of visitors. If you haven’t already visited the house you should definitely add it to your list of places to see in the Gloucester area.
