Whether you’ve just moved into a house with fitted wardrobes or are installing them in your current home, they work best when correctly organised. But do you know how to properly organise a fitted wardrobe? Here are five ways of organising your wardrobe.

1. Have a clear out.

Before you pile all of your belongings into a fitted wardrobe, go through them and remove anything that you don’t want to keep. There is no point storing clothes and accessories that don’t fit or that you don’t like. You can sell or donate these items and enjoy a bit more space in your wardrobe too.

2. Hang what you can.

Jackets, blouses, shirts and trousers are less likely to become creased if they are hung up and as a side benefit, you’ll also be able to see them better. You could also hang your clothes in categories – by clothing style or occasion – or colours to make it easier to find what you want.

3. Use storage boxes.

Small clothing organiser boxes are designed to accommodate items that can be folded, keeping them tidily together and grouped according to size, type or colour. These boxes can either be put into drawers or set on shelves. Choose the right boxes for the clothes you wish to store and the size of your wardrobe.

4. Fit replacement wardrobe doors.

The doors attached to your fitted wardrobe as standard are not the ones you have to settle for. If swinging doors take up too much space or open shelving is not to your taste, you can fit replacement wardrobe doors that will optimise your space and make the fitted wardrobe better suit your needs.

5. Install appropriate lighting.

Elegant bedroom lighting creates a peaceful ambiance but it can make picking out the perfect outfit a bit tricky. Consider installing in-wardrobe lighting that illuminates automatically when you open the wardrobe door or small spotlights to help brighten the interior of the wardrobe. Either option will make it far easier to consider your outfit choices, particularly on dark winter mornings.
