Many people think of caring as being the only real job in a care home. Of course, care is at the centre of all roles in such a setting but there are many forms this can take. There is a multitude of different roles available for people with all sorts of different skills.

Activities Coordinator

Jobs in home care services often have an emphasis on improving and maintaining the quality of life for individuals in need of care. An activities coordinator role is just such a job. It involves organising social activities, including in-house entertainment and trips out.

Care Worker

Of all the jobs in home care services, this is probably the first many people think of. It involves supporting individuals with every aspect of day-to-day living, from personal care to social activities.

Senior Care Worker or Team Leader

This is a more supervisory role to ensure that all team members meet the high standards of care and support required. Daily duties include the likes of writing care plans, staff training and mentoring, and completing medical records.

Deputy Manager

The deputy manager of a care home manages and leads the care team and supports the manager. Daily tasks may include helping with recruitment, managing staff performance, and undertaking care assessments.

Manager

Administrative Roles

These can include everything from finance to HR and marketing. They are supportive roles that ensure the smooth running of the home.

Nursing Roles

Nursing homes require qualified staff who are responsible for directly caring for the patients. More advanced tasks include administering medication, drawing blood, giving IVs and monitoring vital signs.

Other Care Home Jobs

There are a variety of other roles in care homes. These range from cooks and kitchen assistants to housekeepers, cleaners, drivers, and maintenance staff.
